What is it about jobsworths?? I work in a shop and serve the public. We, from time to time get asked to do things that are by far the norm. Is it a pain? Well yes sometimes, but I always do what I can so the customer goes away happy. With things ranging from Soda Bread with no butter, sugar, milk in to a ginger syrup sponge without the ginger and syrup. OK things can't always be done, but other things we try to do.
The binmen at work won't empty one of our bins because they are not supposed to (even though they are emptying a bin that contains the same sort of rubbish) You see we pay for that one to be emptied, the one they leave is next to that one, but still remains on the side of the road untouched.
Went out for a meal and the vegetarian choices have the option of either salad (boring) or jacket potatoe. "Can we have chips instead?" I ask. "Sorry sir it's only salad or jacket on those options". "But the meat eaters get the option of all three...chips salad or jacket" I reply. "If you want chips you'll have to pay the extra". The meat eaters don't have to pay I say getting a bit more angry "not really fair is it?". "It's the till you see sir, there's no option on it for us to change the side order for you". Getting even more annoyed I ask "well can't you just replace them?". "Sorry no, this is from head office".
One word-Arrrggghhhh! It's not like this everywhere of course but it does seem to be getting more and more common.
Why are things like this so much trouble, and are they really too much trouble? We really should take a leaf from our American friends where nothing is too much trouble.

I get fed up with that too when you want to change a combination of something on a dish and they won`t because of the computer - the little dictator in the corner. You`d think places would be trying even harder to get your money. And I can vouch for you always putting yourself out to make things to customer requirements. Speaks volumes for the small business.
ReplyDeleteThanks I hope so. I remember what you posted about the free range eggs in your local shop. How many other places would do that?
